Our Mission

MadePatents advocates for inventors by bringing transparency to the patent application process. Patent pricing is opaque. Most inventors have no idea what a patent should cost until they ask an attorney, and by then they have no basis for comparison. Attorneys rarely publish prices. The few numbers online are outdated or vague. First-time inventors routinely overpay or hire the wrong professional because they lack basic market data.

What We Built

MadePatents is a free resource that makes patent costs visible. We maintain a directory of 2,999+ patent attorneys and agents across all 50 states. For each professional, we collect and verify pricing data, client reviews, credentials, and specialty areas.

Our Patent Cost Calculator gives inventors a realistic estimate based on data from thousands of professionals. Our patent guides cover every step of the filing process in plain language.

Our Data

Pricing data comes from market surveys, published fee schedules, and user submissions.

Reviews are aggregated from Google Maps and Avvo. We calculate a combined MadePatents Rating that weights both sources. Credential data comes from state bar records, Avvo, and Justia profiles.

Every data point is dated. When we display pricing, we note whether it was verified directly or estimated from national averages. We update our data regularly and re-verify pricing annually.

Editorial Standards

Our guides are written by people who understand patent law. We reference primary sources: the USPTO, MPEP, and CFR. We do not use AI-generated filler. If a claim is made, it is sourced. If a number is stated, it comes from real data.

We are not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice. We provide market data and educational content so inventors can make informed decisions about their patent strategy.
